Well let’s see, my daughter is 6 and this week she has told me she wants to be the following when she grows up (this is the weekly progression as it was told to me, btw):
Dinosaur
Firefighter (just like her daddy)
Dancer
Dinosaur dancer
Firefighting dinosaur who dances
A Mommy Elephant
President Obama
She’ll “never be like” me when she “grows up” (ah yes, out of the mouthes of babes, right???)
Jack Hanna
Dinosaur
McDonald’s employee
Fire Fighter
Doctor
Dinosaur
Dancing Dinosaur
Dog
Cat
And before she went to sleep last night she said she wants to be a good mommy, just like me!
lol.
career counseling is admittedly a bit much. but exposing kids from a young age to the idea that there are many different options, and giving them a sense that those options are all theirs for the taking with dedication and effort, seems worthwhile to me. i do think there’s truth to the idea that kids from families who have never had much in the way of opportunities sometimes don’t get a chance to dream big enough to give themselves a shot at getting those opportunities themselves. i think there’s a point to letting kids know about the world out there and all the options in it. a lot of what early education is about is being a tour guide to let kids see what there is to know and do in the world. i think it’s a good idea to show them the many different things that people can do with their lives and to let them know that they will ultimately have the choice, with hard work, to pursue what they want.
I don’t know my son all that well yet being that he is 16 months old. From what I do know, he will be telling those career counselors that he will be just like Evel Knievel. Lol.
Haha ! My daughter wants to be Barrack Obama when she grows up
Can’t wait till her analysis come through lol
Parents are messed up!!
LOL, my youngest wanted to be a cat when she grew up, when she was 2. ha ha
