If You Own A Moped, What Are The Overall Costs (license, Insurance, Etc.} Compared To A Car.?

I’m thinking of buying a moped to run around town on now that gas prices are going through the roof, but I’m not sure if all the costs would make a good idea. I just need some feedback to make a decision.

dont know where u live but ny state if a moped goes under 30 mph u dont need a motorcycle licsence. but insurance should be the bare minimum unless u r a crazy a$$ driver. i would go for the moped!

Yep, if it’s under 100 ccs you don’t need a license or insurance. Different states have different laws, you need to check with your DOT.
Only disadvantage, no highway driving, the power exerted is to low on mopeds to achieve high speeds.
Suggestion, you can get a low powered cycle, 200 ccs or so, and pay little insurance.
Plus, in WI atleast, if you take a Tech School class (2-3 days) and pass it…you don’t need to take the behind the wheel stuff. Once again, check with your state’s laws, they differ.
    Hope this helps you out!

Most US states require mopeds to be licensed and insured (a very few still don’t). You may also need an additional or different license (moped or motorcycle) in some states. Insurance would be almost nothing -like $100 a year for over age 25.
Ask yourself if it’s really worth it if it’s raining? Can you remember to refill the oil tank? Do you ride a full size motorcycle right now also?
You also need a good entry level helmet (figure $75)- if you don’t think you need one then you’re an idiot and should go on putting gas in your car. Figure on gloves and a decent heavy jacket (like a Levis jean jacket or something).
You also have to ask yourself whether you can deal with the danger risk of riding one since it is not like a car. (Most moped/motorcycle accidents are within 10 miles of a persons home.) I lowsided a moped while turning at less than 5mph while a helmet & gloves saved my head and hands, I put a 2″ diameter scrape down to fatty tissue on my knee and road rash up my calf due to shorts.
